Wednesday 27th November saw the official opening of Amery Hill School’s new canteen facility. The building, constructed by Mountjoy over an eight-month period, comprises a state-of-the-art new dining hall and kitchen in line with the government’s healthy lifestyle initiative.
The new building, which is connected to the main school, was declared open by Councillor Graham Titterington, the Town Mayor of Alton. Joining him was the school’s Headteacher Stephen Mann along with various staff and pupils, and Mountjoy’s project team including Building Projects Director, Duncan O’Rourke.
Speaking of the project, Deputy Headteacher Jon Eacott said, “I'm really grateful for the work that's been put in. The whole building has been beautifully put together, and working with Mountjoy has been really easy. You've listened to our concerns, and really seemed to understand our 'vision' for the Dining Hall we wanted. The students are really excited about using the hall for the first time.”
The Design & Build project has formed the first phase of an ambitious building programme for the school, who plan to construct a new auditorium in the future along with Drama and Dance facilities. To accommodate these, the new dining hall was constructed in a way that will allow a future first floor to be developed at a later date.
