Mountjoy has been appointed by Woking Borough Council and Freedom Leisure to carry out several phases of internal and external refurbishments at the Pool in the Park in Woking. The works are part of a multi-million pound investment programme which aims to modernise the popular leisure centre.
The first phase of the improvement works will address some structural issues with the Pool roof and building envelope - including strengthening the roof beams and spectator gallery, new glazing, upgraded heating and cooling systems and provide a fully refurbished atrium area. The second phase will see the complete transformation of the pool’s changing room facilities. The new facilities will incorporate equipment such as a hoists, curtains, adult-sized changing benches and enough space for carers so that with a range of disabilities to use the changing areas safely. Each phase of the work has been programmed in consultation with the Leisure Centre management to ensure uninterrupted access to the centre for the local community.
The first phase of the project commenced in October, with all phases expected to be completed by June 2020. The scheme serves as a welcome addition to Mountjoy’s portfolio of leisure centre refurbishments, which includes recent projects at Portsmouth Watersports Centre and the Mountbatten Centre.
