Local construction and maintenance provider, Mountjoy Ltd, has been awarded a £600,000 project to carry out refurbishment works at Building 35 and Building 37, HMS Excellent on Whale Island in Portsmouth.
The project for The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity will see the buildings brought into good condition with the aim to minimise repair and maintenance for the next 25 years. It will also bring the added benefits for the Charity of enhanced conference facilities and modern office facilities for staff.
HMS Excellent is home to the Naval Headquarters and front-line training units, it has its roots in more than 100 years of naval history.
The project works include internally, structural alterations to form conference suites, but also divide spaces into meeting rooms and offices. New mechanical and electrical installations with modern data and communications facilities will replace redundant services. Externally roof works and rainwater goods will bring the properties up to standard. Building 37 and 35 will be linked by a new corridor.
This win for our Special Projects department follows others this year for a Southampton University Hospital ward renovation, Surrey County Council school facilities refurbishment and housing external repairs for Portsmouth City Council.
