The Objective
We provide reactive and planned maintenance for the University of Southampton's halls of residences, with minimal disruption to students. Additionally, we carry out a tight programme of refurbishments each summer whilst the 6,500 rooms are unoccupied.
The Solution
After mobilising the contract in 2011 from our head office, Mountjoy set up an office for the maintenance team on site at the University’s Glen Eyre Campus to allow for a rapid response service and close contact with the University’s Property Management Team.
As well the normal day-to-day carpentry, plumbing, roofing, groundworks, and other ad hoc repairs, Mountjoy also carries out larger refurbishments of whole accommodation blocks. Each year, we carry out 9,000 repairs.
For the summer programme, Mountjoy’s increased workforce are inducted in the University’s way of working and then set to work on the circa 2,000 appointments that can occur within the vacant timeframe during the summer break. We increase our contract team by 10-15 trade staff from other Mountjoy contracts to achieve this.
