The Objective
To create additional teaching space at Bevois Town Primary School, Southampton City Council acquired a vacant office building in close proximity to the school so that it could be remodelled for the purpose.
The Solution
In order to convert the building it needed to be stripped down to the shell, new structural steelwork was installed and a large section of the building was extended.
The extension provides a new entrance as well as housing the staircase and lift, allowing access to the second floor.
The building required new mechanical and electrical installations, decorating and flooring as well as new uPVC windows and doors. A kitchen area was created for teachers, and new toilet facilities were installed for teachers and pupils. The rooms were fitted with folding partitions to divide the space as necessary. AV equipment including smart boards were installed reading for when teaching starts.
Externally, a soft-surface play area was laid with surrounding landscaping.
