Mountjoy were appointed by Solent University to deliver refurbishment and re-fit works to the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Michael Andrews Building, located on the university’s East Park Terrace in Southampton.
The works were undertaken to allow for the relocation of facilities for the faculty of creative industries, architecture, and engineering, which were previously based in their Bar End campus.
Across both floors. the works included:
- Demolition and Strip out
- Installation of new partition walls and doors to create new spaces for classrooms, labs, and workshops
- New ceilings
- New floor finishes
- Decorations
- Alterations to existing mechanical and electrical services to suit the revised layout
- Installation of new air handling and air conditioning systems
Throughout the works, the rest of the building remained in occupation by staff and students, and so careful logistical planning was implemented to ensure safe access was maintained for building users.
This was done via the installation of chapter 8 barriers surrounding the works, as well as designated members of staff manning the dedicated entry point to the works areas, ensuring that unauthorised access was prohibited.
The works began on 31st August 2022, with final handover being achieved in March 2023.
