Mountjoy were appointed to provide modern, fit-for-purpose accommodation for the Andover Health Centre Medical Practice (AHCMP) GP surgery. This new two-storey accommodation would replace the existing surgery at Andover War Memorial Hospital and house a new Dentist surgery under a design and build contract.
The £4.2m works were agreed as part of a long-term partnership between the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and NHS West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
The works began with the demolition of the existing hospital wing and construction of a brand new two-storey building on the existing footprint. New spaces that were created include:
- 2 reception areas
- Waiting and Sub-Waiting Rooms
- 10no. GP Consulting and Treatment Rooms
- Dental Surgeries and X-Ray Facilities
- 2 Staff rooms/kitchens/Stores
- WCs & Baby Change
- Shower room
- Lift shaft
We also carried out additional works packages for alterations to the existing hospital car park, including increasing hospital car park spaces and installing new barriers and ANPR system, alterations to the existing staff changing facilities, including the installation of a new shower room and sanitaryware, and the creation of a new Clinical Waste bin store facility. These were scoped and quoted by our site team in collaboration with hospital staff.
As the main hospital remained in use throughout the duration of the project, we programmed our works carefully to prioritise safety and minimise disruption for staff, patients and visitors.
The enabling works began in November 2020 with main build commencing March 2021 with final handover being achieved in December 2022.
