Objective
The Government’s Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP 2) was introduced in 2015, its purpose to implement the upgrading of the condition of school buildings across the country. Brading Church of England Primary School was selected along with a handful of other schools across the island to receive upgrades following an application by the Isle of Wight Council. Following a competitive tender process, Mountjoy was selected as the preferred contractor to undertake the works required to bring the building back up to standard.
Solution
Works included repairs to the pitched roof and external walls, the replacement of external windows and doors, internal doors and sanitaryware, the installation of new ceilings and flooring and an overhaul of the mechanical and electrical systems. The project also encompassed some minor extension works to the administration and staff rooms.
The project commenced in June 2020, with completion achieved in April 2021. A good portion of the work took place whilst the school was occupied and during the coronavirus pandemic, making health and safety a top priority throughout each phase.
