The Objective
English Heritage awarded Mountjoy this project to undertake vital conservation work in the Swiss Cottage Quarter of Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.
The project had funding from the Heritage Lottery fund, the Garfield Weston Foundation and other donors to accomplish the refurbishment of the group of listed buildings and gardens, where the Victorian royal children played and learned.
The Solution
The scope of works included internal and external repairs to Swiss Cottage, the museum building and Gazelle House. Gazelle House will house a new café for which Mountjoy installed the servery. Toilet blocks were also repaired and redesigned, and the Victoria Fort underwent minor repairs.
Special methods had to be used during the works to minimise damage to the property and to be in-keeping with its historic, listed nature, for example a free standing scaffold was used to carry out roof repairs.
Following completion of the works, the property was visited by the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
