The Objective
BH Live took over management of The Mountbatten Centre and other Portsmouth City Council owned sports centres in the city in February 2017 and planned to carry out a number of improvements to facilities within the first year. As well as improving the facility, the improvements are to encourage greater participation in physical activity.
The Solution
Mountjoy started works in November 2017, carefully organising the site to work around the live environment of leisure centre users.
Works included alterations to the entrance, reception, bar and café areas, A new soft-play facility was created as well as a 'Clip n Climb' experience for young people.
The centre now offers members with a more modern experience through new self-service features. Newly installed kiosks and a mobile app allow customers to manager their own activities.
The Mountbatten opened its doors to local residents to get active for free for one day in July, allowing people to try out a variety of sports and activities including the new Clip 'n Climb and Soft Play. Activities included street dance, junior boxing, tennis, walking netball, family stretch classes and a wet and wacky session in the 50m pool.
